WHAT IS THE ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE & MACHINE LEARNING DEEP-DIVE TRACK?

From SIRI, to Alexa, to self-driving cars, artificial intelligence is expanding rapidly. While science fiction often portrays AI as robots with human-like characteristics, AI can encompass anything from Google’s search algorithms to IBM’s Watson to autonomous weapons. Why do we have to do research to ensure the safety of artificial intelligence? Examine, together, the intersection between technology and humans and what it means for our society’s future.

1:00 PM - 2:00 PM - Doing Responsible AI with a Disruptive Mindset

We’ve all read the news articles and heard our most prominent voices espouse the need for ethical and responsible AI, but what does that actually look like? This panel will explore how we can, and need to move beyond discussions, whitepapers, and even principle setting to ensure AI systems are being designed, built, trained, and managed in a way which reflects our ethical expectations. This unique group of product creators, and industry leaders are each working on tangible solutions for the quantifiable evaluation and protection of AI inputs, most notably the data and algorithms that are fueling these systems. Through the establishment of international standards, the creation of data trusts, and hands-on ethics labs this panel will share current work to mitigate bias and ensure fairness in AI.

Everyone is using the word “analytics”, but do we understand what it can mean to a business?

In this walking tour of the world of business analytics, we’ll limber up by looking at how simple grade-school “statistics” gives way to the vastly more useful field of analytics. We’ll set a nice pace as we explore what analytics looks like for a barber shop with a small budget. We’ll get a light sweat going as we head for the hills and understand how we can use analytics and our existing data to see our business completely differently, and then we’ll cool down while we look at how Shoppers Drug Mart, Netflix, Target and Walmart think about and act on their data to understand and cater to their customers.
